This passage shows how scared Walker has made her. She won't even leave the house to go to the beach which is only a few feet away from the house. Micheal really knows that he has to talk to his mom outside the house. He has to make her not afriad of Walker. This is where is saw how really frightend she was in the story and how she won't even leave the house without his permission. So everything just picks up from this point in the story and things start moving faster and faster.
